My stay at the Warren Center has come to an end. I will miss many of the people responsible for my care. I have already written about my therapists now It is time to address the nurses and the aides of the south wing. Many of them were phenomenal. Some left a lot to be desired. The morning and evening shifts were great it’s that 11-7 shift that needs much Improvement as I believe many of them are just there for a paycheck. I will not be naming anyone during this blog. The ones that I will miss know who they are (I hope). On my first night there I had an older woman as a roommate, she was having Issues and was not fully in her right mind. During the night she got turned sideways in her bed and needed help I was not able to help her as I have a broken leg that is non-weight-bearing. I rang for the aids who took their time (28 minutes) to come see what the problem was. In the meantime this woman had gotten herself crossways in the bed and was almost hitting her head on the floor screaming for someone to help her. They came in and got her back into bed and situated. A few hours later the same thing happened again they took their time coming in, this time she was screaming the room is covered in blood get me out of here and again were crossways in the bed with her diaper off holding onto the dividing curtain for dear life. They moved her the next day. I got a new roommate a few weeks later this woman was more with It but had been In a bed so long that she had very little muscle tone left and could not move her own body by herself she had to be lifted out of bed and put Into a wheelchair during meals and her dialysis. She was a very sweet lady who did not deserve to be treated the way she was by the 11-7 shift. She had recently received a fistula for her dialysis In the left arm which meant not procedures, blood pressure, blood draws or anything else could take place In that arm. One night the nurse on duty came In with an automatic blood pressure machine and couldn’t get a pressure out of her so she was going to use the other arm, I spoke up and said ” no left arm she has a fistula” to which the nurse replied “oops guess I should have known that, I didn’t even read the sign”. Now being a nurse treating patients don’t you think she should have checked being this lady was a renal patient??? A few hours lady the woman needed to be turned, as she couldn’t herself. the same nurse came In and said” you were just turned a little while ago, It hasn’t been two hours yet suck It up” and then left the room. I spoke to the head nurse about her.
The last night of my stay I had asked for pain pills. At night I tend to move a lot and the cast doesn’t always move with the leg causing me pain. The nurse came in and told me I wasn’t due for any. (Between 6 and 7pm I had taken an oxy) I told her I knew it wasn’t time for an oxy I just wanted Tylenol. She still told me no at 2 am I asked her again for Tylenol and my muscle relaxer since I was still in pain. She never came back but she put in the computer that she had given it to me. That in my opinion is utter Incompetence.
I really hope that anyone who stays here has better luck with the 11-7 shift then I did. My real hope is that they get more competent people on that shift then it wouldn’t be such a bad place for people who really need help. Overall my stay was a good one; there were more good people then bad. A few of them I hope to have a long lasting relationship with.
