Week one no cast

The first week without a cast has been interesting. I thought that I would be able to do a little bit more than I’m able to do which has caused me some minor pain. I can bend my leg to 90° but I cannot straighten out fully this too I hope will come in time. It’s been almost 2 weeks since I’ve used any major pain medicine other than Tylenol.

Ice packs have now become my new best friend as they really help with the pain I sleep with one on my knee just about every night. The leg brace is lighter than the cast was however it’s not exactly comfortable I don’t have to sleep with it only have it on when I’m up and moving around. My ankle still swells when I’m up for two long and don’t have it elavated. My son Christopher and my daughter Kate have been very helpful. Christopher is even learning to cook and I must say he’s a pretty damn good cook. Every morning he makes me my coffee at lunchtime he asked me what I want for lunch and usually fixes it most of the time it’s grilled cheese or pizza bites. I don’t know what I would do without my kids they have beenVery understanding and helpful.

I go back to the doctors next Friday hopefully I can start putting a little bit of weight on my leg right now it’s just total charge which is very hard I go without issue on the left foot. The reason that I don’t wear shoe is so that I remember not to step down on that foot. During the night when I wake up and have to go to the ladies room I almost forget and stand up catch myself once my toes hit the floor and think to myself that could have been disastrous. Moving around has gotten much easier. I still use the wheelchair and the walker but I’m using the walker a little bit more than I was before.Soon my therapy is going to include stairs which I’m not really looking forward to you yet at the same time I want to be able to go up and down the stairs.

Since the cast has come off I have noticed that my skin is extremely dry on that leg. I have been using creamy baby oil and it still is very dry any helpful suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The scar on my leg from the surgery is long but not as long as i would have thought it would be. In circles around the left side of my knee goes about halfway down my shin. At first it looked red and angry because it was covered with the blood that was straight up once it was cleaned up though didn’t look so gross.Taking a shower has become easier I can maneuver a little bit better in and out of the shower still have a little difficulty getting in and out but it’s doable. So far since the cast come off I have been getting more and more self-sufficient and independent but I still have a long road ahead of me till I’m back 100%. I will post more next week after going back to the doctors hopefully this won’t be a long process as we initially thought. Everybody have a good week and you’ll hear from me soon take care bye-bye.
